Tamron standard zoom has built-in image stabilization

Tamron has announced the SP 24-70 mm f/2.8 Di VC USD, which the company says is the world’s first full-size high-speed standard zoom lens equipped with VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization and USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive).

Tamron says resolution is at the top of its class.

The Canon mount will available early May, and Nikon and Sony compatible mounts in mid-June.

The lens uses Tamron’s newest technology, including the latest optical design, VC and USD, all in a lighter and more compact package.

Moisture-resistant construction helps prevent water from penetrating the lens.

Specialized high-grade glass in the three LD elements, three glass-molded aspherical lenses, one hybrid aspherical lens and two XR (Extra Refractive Index) glasses, are said to deliver top-of-the-class quality images suited to this high-grade lens.

The company also says a rounded diaphragm delivers “gorgeous” blur effects.

The product name for Sony cameras is SP 24-70 mm f//2.8 Di USD – without the VC designation.

Minimum focus distance is 0.38 m (15 in); maximum magnification ratio is 1:5 (at 70mm).

The lens weighs 825 g (29.1 oz).
