It’s the company’s first “multi-purpose” camera with at least one incredible trick up its sleeve: Full HD video with a minimum subject illumination of less than 0.0005 lux (at maximum 75 dB gain setting, equivalent to an ISO sensitivity of over 4,000,000)!
Canon says it will be super for nighttime surveillance and security, cinematic production, reality television, and nature/wildlife documentaries.
The camera uses an enhanced version of the full-frame CMOS sensor for Full HD video use that was originally developed by the company in 2013.
There’s no viewfinder or LCD monitor nor onboard image storage; output is via 3G/HD-SDI and HDMI terminals to the recorder or monitor of your choice.
If you’ve just got to have one, the Canon ME20F-SH is expected to be available in December at a suggested retail price of US$30,000.
