Think drone with a camera and you’ll probably imagine a diminutive GoPro hanging below the blades, which makes the announcement of a partnership of Hasselblad and aerial photography company DJI, through DJI’s acquisition of a strategic minority stake in Hasselblad, a head-scratcher.
According to the companies, the partnership will “allow opportunities and new ways of combining the technical knowledge and inventive spirit of the two industry leaders in their respective fields.”
The companies aren’t merging; each will go their own way. Hasselblad cameras and equipment will continue to be handmade in Sweden, and DJI will continue to make products in Shenzhen, China.
DJI says the partnership will further establishes its leadership in the professional camera technology space.
