Interesting question. And one without a definitive answer. Samsung continues to sell cameras, camcorders and laptops in North America, but that’s not the case elsewhere.
A year after Samsung announced it was leaving the laptop market in Europe, citing unfavourable market conditions, noting this was “specific to the region” and “not necessarily reflective of conditions in other markets,” the company appears to be doing the same with cameras and camcorders in Europe and elsewhere. It recently announced it was phasing out camera and camcorder sales in Germany and the UK, specifically, but reports also suggest in Australia and Hong Kong as well.
We want to emphasize there has been no Samsung statement relating to the North American market, and it continues to sell cameras, camcorders and laptops here. Fingers crossed, because the photo business has not been kind to its children, just ask Polaroid, Kodak and Rollei, among others.
