Western Digital buys SanDisk

SanDisk cardIf your favourite camera memory cards bear the SanDisk name, take note the company has been bought by Western Digital, whose hard drives may be inside your computer.

The two companies’ product lines are complementary and include the aforementioned hard disk drives as well as solid-state drives (SSDs), cloud datacenter storage solutions, and flash storage solutions.

Toshiba has been a long-term partner to SanDisk, and apparently that joint venture will continue.

The deal is worth about US$19 billion and is expected to close by the end of this summer.
